геометрическая форма, которая может быть разбита на отдельные части, приближённо представляющие собой уменьшенную копию целого. Термин (от латинского fractus - дробный, изломанный) предложил в 1975 г. американский математик Бенуа Мандельброт (Benoit В. Mandelbrot). Он же дал фракталам определение и объединил в класс структур с общими свойствами: самоподобием и структурной неограниченностью.
